The Wal-Mart curse continues

The Wal-Mart curse continues
It never fails. Seriously. If I’m in Wal-Mart, 9 times out of 10 I get a call from someone I’ve been waiting to hear from.
Well, it happened again this morning as I was about to wrap up my shopping adventure.

Yes. I’m in charge of the groceries in my household (that way I can’t complain about dinner choices). The pantry was low, so I made the trip to Wolly World. Wednesday morning is always the best time, because there is very little traffic.

And as I’m checking out $170 later, my trusty Blackberry starts buzzing its U2 ring tone. It’s 9:52 and I’m right in the middle of my debit card transaction. A quick decision has to be made.

I can either ignore the phone or answer it. If I answer it, it’s rude to those waiting on me in the check-out line (I certainly get agitated when the role is reversed), not to mention the look I’ll get from the red-eyed cashier, who looked as if she was one wrong move on my part from losing it and going postal. If I don’t answer it, I miss the call. What’s a sportswriter to do?

Well, I took my chances and didn’t answer. Mistake.

Of course, it’s Rick Stansbury, calling me back from last night. I should have known.

  3. Tuesday at 8:58 pm on Muschamp to take over Texas when Brown retires: Michael:I just don’t see this panning out.  Brown still has a ton of time on his contract.  During that you have to think there is a high probability that either A) Muschamp has a bad year and they can him; B)…

  7. Tuesday at 11:25 am on Barack Obama Doesn’t Get It; College Football, That Is: MikeStone:I knew there was a reason not to vote this guy in.  He obviously is NOT a college football fan.  There are reasons for a playoff, but more reasons not to have a playoff.  Obama said something to the effect that…
  8. Tuesday at 11:16 am on Les Miles has to fix LSU quarterback problem: MikeStone:Fix the quarterback problem?  How about fixing the coach problem?  This guy is not, I repeat NOT, a good coach.  He makes bone-headed play calls, doesn’t recruit particularly well, and does a poor job of delegating.  I’ve told anyone who will…

  11. Sunday at 11:55 am on Barack Obama Doesn’t Get It; College Football, That Is: Michael:This is a pretty good analysis of why we won’t get a true playoff.  Not even taking into account the plausibility of a truly equitable playoff system.  I think one of the things we all miss when we talk about how…
  12. Saturday at 1:20 pm on Meet The King Of Q-School (Good piece): Bo:Michael Allen is a super guy. He’s played well at the Viking Classic too. Look at the money in golf: Allen is ranked 106, and has earned $981,263 this year. That’s big-boy money. Kudos to Michael continuing to grind out a…

  15. Tuesday at 8:06 am on Despite faults, BCS system better than a playoff: Michael:The problem I have with a conventional “playoff” is that to make it any more effective than the BCS you would either have to a) subdivide into more than just Div. IA and IAA; or b) you would have to start…
  16. Tuesday at 1:04 am on Manning Must Prepare for a Difficult Homestretch: Leprechaun Pimp:I love how the press is playing this.
