Spring departures cause a Sherrod shift with Bulldogs
STARKVILLE -- The news wasn’t good this spring for Mississippi State football players like defensive back Anthony Johnson, linebacker Jamon Hughes, defensive tackle Rodney Prince, defensive lineman Quinton Wesley and offensive lineman Mike Brown when they were either dismissed or left the team.
However, the loss of Brown on the offensive line has opened a door for Caledonia’s Derek Sherrod at left offensive tackle with the Bulldogs.
“We operate on a two-year plan and it was already the plan when Mike (Brown) graduated to move Derek Sherrod over to the left side and (Mark) Melichar would play the right side,” Mississippi State head football coach Sylvester Croom said Thursday. “We went ahead and did that this spring and Quentin Saulsberry is playing the left side too.
“We know Sherrod can play on the left side so that’s not a problem. We’re going to move Quentin over to the right side.”

Last year was a great year and badly needed. But it is this year when we will really see how Coach Croom’s plan is working.

Does State have the depth to lose Brown, and still go bowling?
