JUCO QB's dad didn't want son to be a 'rented mule'
During the recruitment of junior college quarterback Cam Newton, it was widely believed that Mississippi State was the leader for the services of the No.1-rated JUCO prospect in the country.
It made sense, after all, as Dan Mullen is the Bulldogs head coach, and Newton's familiarity with the coach -- Mullen was the offensive coordinator at Florida during Newton's brief stay in Gainesville, shortened by sticky fingers to another person's laptop -- naturally gave MSU the early edge in the process.
However, once Newton and his father started to seriously look around at other schools -- Auburn in particular -- the perceived lack of talent in Starkville compared to other schools involved in the process opened the door for Gene Chizik to swoop in and swipe the talented player from Mullen's grasp.

Who is Bo Bounds? He seems to not know much about sports! Posted by TBB on 01-26-2010 at 11:06 AM [link]

Rumors abound that he manages strip clubs and runs guns. In his spare time.....he dunks on a 6’ goal. Posted by Bo on 01-26-2010 at 08:08 PM [link]

I have heard that too, but I was not asking what he did for a living since sports is obviously not one of them. In time and with a lot of practice he can move that stool and dunk those 6 foot goals without it: maybe. Posted by TBB on 01-26-2010 at 08:48 PM [link]

I see nothing in the text to indicate anything about a “rented mule.” What are you trying to say? Do you mean that Mullen would treat Newton like a “rented mule” and Chizik would treat him as a “pet mule” or are you just trying to be sensational?
