MSU’s Dixon should find a home in the NFL
STARKVILLE – Pretty soon, the cowbells will stop ringing in Anthony Dixon’s ears. The echoing cheers will fade from his mind. The praise heaped upon Mississippi State’s tackle-breaking, record-busting running back will give way to the gravelly voice of Matt Balis.
Balis is MSU’s strength and conditioning coach and, if Dixon so chooses, the man charged with preparing the 6-foot-1, 235-pound Terry native for his journey to the next level – the NFL.
Dixon, who won the Conerly Trophy on Monday, said after last week’s Egg Bowl win over Ole Miss that he’d take a few days off to recover – good idea, said Balis – and then it’s time to get back to work.

He is an amazing runner. He has learned when to lower his head and hit hard. Wouldn’t it be great to see him in the backfield alongside Jerious Norwood, or better yet, in Black and Gold in the Dome?! I am sure he will be a Sunday player soon.
