HATTIESBURG — The three finalists for the Conerly Trophy were announced on Tuesday and for only the fourth time in 13 events, there will be no Southern Miss football players at the award show.
Austin Davis, DeAndre Brown, Gerald McRath and last year's winner, Damion Fletcher, all received votes, but none of them were among the finalists.
Some Southern Miss fans are not happy that no Golden Eagle made the final round of consideration, and coach Larry Fedora understands their concern.
"They ought to be upset," Fedora said. "I don't really understand how it works. It'd be unfair to make a statement without knowing how it works. But there are very deserving guys on this football team that ought to be there."
