Ryan defends Wisconsin’s transfer stance

Ryan defends Wisconsin’s transfer stance

Madison – Not long after Wisconsin officials changed the conditions of Jarrod Uthoff’s scholarship release, UW men’s basketball coach Bo Ryan held court in his office for 35 minutes to discuss the events of the last week.

Ryan was candid, colorful, went on the defensive when talking about his program, and was adamant he handled Uthoff’s transfer request appropriately after consulting with other coaches who have lost players over the years.

“What is it that we did or didn’t do that doesn’t follow the letter of the law, the letter of the rule?” he asked a group of about a dozen reporters. “If somebody knows a better way for the University of Wisconsin to at least have the opportunity to talk to the young man, whether it’s the coach, which wasn’t going to happen (and) wasn’t my choice, or the administration . . . throw it out here.”

Wisconsin alleges athletic official grabbed student’s crotch

MADISON, Wis. (AP) – A University of Wisconsin student alleged that an athletic department official grabbed his crotch at an alcohol-fueled party during the football team’s trip to the Rose Bowl, according to an independent report released by the school on Tuesday night.

The report says the student alleges former senior associate athletic director John Chadima put his hand down the student’s pants at the end of a party in Chadima’s suite at a Los Angeles hotel on Dec. 31.

The student — identified only as John Doe in the report — said he was “shocked and frightened” and slapped Chadima’s hand away.

Chadima was put on administrative leave on Jan. 6 and resigned the same day. He previously had issued an apology for a “lapse in judgment,” and issued another statement through his attorney Tuesday.

Bielema looks to match bowl legacy of Alvarez

Bielema looks to match bowl legacy of Alvarez

Los Angeles - The question has stalked Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema from Wisconsin to California.

What would it mean for you to win the Rose Bowl?

Bielema’s responses have varied in length and tone, but the message has been the same.

A victory for No. 9 UW (11-2) over No. 6 Oregon (11-2) in the 98th Rose Bowl at 4:10 p.m. Monday would give Bielema a .500 record in bowl games, allow his players to secure a trophy that eluded them in this storied game last season and continue elevating the national profile of the program. “It would obviously be better than losing,” said Bielema, whose first trip to the Rose Bowl as UW’s coach ended with a 21-19 loss to TCU.

Which league has the most to prove in bowls?

Which league has the most to prove in bowls?

At the College Football Roundtable each week, we ask each member of the college football coverage staff for his opinion about a topic in the sport.

THIS WEEK’S QUESTION: Which conference has the most to prove during the postseason?

Olin Buchanan’s answer:
The Big East might be the easy answer, but my feeling is the Big Ten has even more to prove. In the past five seasons, the Big Ten is 13-23 in bowls, and since the inception of the BCS in 1998, the league hasn’t fared well in the high-profile BCS bowl games.

Ohio State president needs history lesson

Ohio State president needs history lesson

‘Tis the season … for Dr. E. Gordon Gee to jam his scarlet and gray presidential foot securely into his mouth. There is nothing wrong with protecting the shield, I get it, but doing so by throwing rocks at glass houses when your house is very breakable, that’s a head scratcher. In an interview with the AP, the Ohio State president took a swipe at Boise State and TCU, saying, ”I do know, having been both a Southeastern Conference president and a Big Ten president, that it’s like murderer’s row every week for these schools. We do not play the Little Sisters of the Poor.
