Can’t deny similarities between Syracuse and Penn State scandals

SYRACUSE — Like Joe Paterno, Jim Boeheim is one of the most successful coaches in college sports.

A master not only at winning but, until recently, a master at controlling the message and practically everything else — the epitome of the big fish in the small college town.

But the era of the all-powerful coach seems to be coming to and end. The ink has hardly dried on reports of the Jerry Sandusky sexual abuse scandal that rocked Penn State and cost Paterno his job. And now a similar firestorm is bearing down on the Syracuse campus and is already affecting Boeheim’s status in upstate New York and his dealings with the media.
