A cornerback never has been taken first or second overall in the NFL draft. In 1997, the Washington Redskins selected Shawn Springs with the No. 3 choice, matching Atlanta’s nabbing of Bruce Pickens at the same spot in 1991 as the highest a prospect at the position has been taken. Expect the trend to continue this year, even though a reasonable exception could be made. LSU’s Patrick Peterson is dynamic enough to go at the top. “He’s my No. 1 player,” said Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com senior analyst.
