ESPN’s Sport Science compares Michigan’s Denard Robinson to Michael Vick

ESPN’s Sport Science compares Michigan’s Denard Robinson to Michael Vick

After Denard Robinson applied for feedback on his draft status from the NFL advisory committee earlier this week, it had John Brinkus at ESPN’s Sport Science thinking:

Could Denard Robinson be better than Michael Vick?

”Robinson is quite possibly faster than any quarterback in NFL history,” Brinkus said during the http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=7379980 TARGET=“TOP”>2-minute video.

Michigan football gets former Ohio State commit, top player in Ohio

A former Ohio State commitment under ex-coach Jim Tressel, the 6-foot-5, 302-pounder was among the most vocal supporters of sticking with his Buckeyes commitment. But as the tide turned and the NCAA allegations mounted, Kalis decommitted. Switching to Michigan is a major blow for OSU — Kalis is the highest-ranked recruit in U-M’s 19-player 2012 class. Kalis is rated as Rivals.com’s No. 4 offensive tackle prospect (U-M already has No. 8 in California’s Erik Magnuson) and the No. 18th player overall.

According to BuckeyeGrove.com, Kalis is the No. 1 player in Ohio.

New coaches bring a new uncertainty to Ohio State-Michigan rivalry

“Anything negative on either side, for Ohio State or Michigan, is not good for anybody,” said Pat Massey, a former Michigan defensive lineman from St. Ignatius who played for the Wolverines from 2002-05. “I don’t think any Michigan fans are proud to see what’s going on down in Columbus. It’s really unfortunate for everybody.”

College football’s greatest rivalry could suffer if major NCAA sanctions knock the Buckeyes from the ranks of the game’s best programs for a while. Or the last Saturday in November might actually get a boost by the new blood in the game. For the first time since 1929, both Ohio State and Michigan are entering a season with first-year head coaches.

Tate Forcier confirms he has left U-M football program

It is unclear where Forcier might transfer — he will be the third Forcier to transfer. His older brother Jason, a quarterback at Michigan, transferred to Stanford in 2006 after two seasons with the Wolverines, and his brother Chris left UCLA for Furman in June 2009.

Under NCAA transfer rules, if he decides to transfer to a Division I-A school, he will have to sit out the 2011 season. Should Forcier transfer to a I-AA program or lower, he could play this fall. A source close to Forcier said he believes Forcier will try to transfer to a Pac-12 or Mountain West Conference program.

Tweets indicate Forcier transferring from Michigan

A series of 20 entries late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning on a Twitter account used by quarterback Tate Forcier indicated that the sophomore plans to transfer from Michigan.

“I really wanted to stay,” Forcier wrote toward the end of the series. “I was not giving up on Michigan, but in the end, it was made clear they had given up on me. With that being said, it’s time for me to go.”

Brady Hoke not popular choice for Michigan football coach, but he might be right choice

Yes, Hoke is 47-50, and if you can block out the crying in Ann Arbor, you might hear the laughter in Columbus and East Lansing. Michigan hired a coach with a losing record!

But that record is misleading. Hoke’s 34-38 record at Ball State, for example, included a 1-16 mark against teams from the major BCS conferences. Thirteen of those 17 games were on the road, and one was a neutral-site bowl. Realistically, how many of those games can a school like Ball State win?

Is rebuilding project hurting Michigan’s coach search?

Is rebuilding project hurting Michigan’s coach search?

Jim Harbaugh officially spurning his alma mater for what basically came down to a Bay Area choice — take the San Francisco 49ers gig or remain a Stanford Cardinal — delivered another blow to Michigan’s immense ego.

There hasn’t been a decision this anticipated since LeBron’s summer melodrama. Harbaugh announced Friday that he would take his coaching talents to the NFL.

Miles not as hot a candidate at Michigan these days

(For the record, TheWolverine.com also reports that Miles wanted the Michigan job “badly” the last time around “but didn’t get a sniff” due to some bad relationships in Ann Arbor.  But TigerBait.com — the Rivals site for LSU — claims that Miles was “ready to remain at LSU” even if Michigan had offered.  Funny how the story changes depending on the writer’s location.)

Whether Michigan chases Miles this time around remains to be seen.  Ditto whether Miles will leave a great recruiting base for his struggling alma mater if it does come calling.
