Trent Richardson goes from being told he’ll never run again to his goal of becoming the best NFL back that ever lived

Trent Richardson goes from being told he’ll never run again to his goal of becoming the best NFL back that ever lived

BEREA, Ohio — When Trent Richardson wasn’t dodging bullets in his hometown of Pensacola, Fla., he was trying to prove wrong the doctors who told him he’d never run again and cope with being a dad at 16.

At one point, after his second ankle surgery and with a baby girl in his arms, he nearly gave up the game he loved so much. Luckily for the Browns, he didn’t.

“It’s a miracle that I’ve gotten to this point,” he said. “Now that I’m here, I want to be remembered as the most dominant player to ever play the game.”

CSU Rams football coach Jim McElwain says he took “strongest” action after incident

FORT COLLINS — Colorado State football coach Jim McElwain said while due process is needed, he took the strongest action he could over the weekend against three Rams players.

McElwain suspended Mike Orakpo, Nordly Capi and Colton Paulhus indefinitely for their alleged role in a fight late Friday night that resulted in four other CSU students being sent to Poudre Valley Hospital — two with serious injuries, according to a Fort Collins police news release.

McElwain addressed the media Monday before the team’s afternoon practice. Because of the suspension, none of the players will be involved in any team activities, including practices and meetings.

Jim McElwain left Alabama in style

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama — Before Alabama begins life with a new offensive coordinator, take a minute to appreciate Jim McElwain one last time.

Remember what you thought when Alabama hired McElwain in 2008? Jim who? You weren’t alone.

“The phone rang, and I thought maybe they had the wrong number,” McElwain said. “That they would come out to Fresno and take a look at a guy who grew up in Montana, that’s an unbelievable thing.”

Alabama offensive coordinator Jim McElwain might be the people’s choice to be Fresno State’s head coach

Alabama offensive coordinator Jim McElwain might be the people’s choice to be Fresno State’s head coach

TUSCALOOSA – Before becoming Alabama’s offensive coordinator in 2008, Jim McElwain served one year as the offensive coordinator at Fresno State. That single, successful season seems to have made him the people’s choice to return to the Western Athletic Conference school as the head coach.

The position came open Sunday when Pat Hill was dismissed after 15 years as the Bulldogs’ head coach. Interest between McElwain and Fresno State appears to be mutual, although the coach isn’t talking and athletic department officials aren’t talking speaking on the record.
