Is Jeremiah Masoli’s next stop in Omaha?

Masoli was taken in the UFL Draft.

Masoli’s selection didn’t warrant much of a mention in the Omaha World-Herald. But the Nighthawks say they found “a potential steal” who “has the potential to excite the Nighthawks faithful.” Nighthawks coach Joe Moglia said Masoli stood out to him in a January all-star game. Said Moglia: “I think he can come in and have a real chance to play at QB here!” The Nighthawks also drafted former Boston College linebacker Mark Herzlich, who missed the 2009 season while fighting a form of bone cancer, and former Kentucky running back Derrick Locke.

Elite Professional (Canadian) Football Prospect – Jeremaih Masoli

It shocked nobody and provided great rib-tickling pleasure to message board hecklers scattered about the Southeast to learn that Jeremiah Masoli was not, in fact, going to finish his Parks and Recreation degree at Ole Miss and, instead, look into his professional prospects. We at the Cup found the situation neither amusing nor, truthfully, that all surprising because the guy’s a football player first and a park ranger, oh, fourth or fifth I’d say. So what if he wanted to give the NFL a look? Which senior football player wouldn’t if he thought he had some modicum of a shot to make it?

An Appreciation: Jeremiah Masoli (Mississippi)

Of course, there were also times when the defense or other players let Masoli down. He played exceptionally well at Arkansas, including 327 yards passing and 98 yards rushing, while the team lost by two touchdowns. And Masoli only attempted 10 passes and five runs in the loss against Jacksonville State, so you can hardly blame him for that game.

In the end, Jeremiah Masoli might be most remembered for what he proved in a year in which Cam Newton seemed to win a national championship almost singlehandedly: Teams matter. Masoli might not have gotten a chance to play on college football’s biggest stage given his suspension at Oregon, but he would have at least been standing a lot closer to the spotlight than he was after a long fall in Oxford.

Jeremiah Masoli says ‘I’m sorry’ as Oregon prepares for BCS title game without him

Jeremiah Masoli says ‘I’m sorry’ as Oregon prepares for BCS title game without him

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Monday, Jeremiah Masoli will put football cleats on, throw some passes, break a sweat. He’ll work out and improve his game. But he will not miss kickoff of the BCS National Championship game.
Oregon used to be Masoli’s team, remember?
Right up until it wasn’t.

“I could do ‘What if’ this or ‘What if’ that,” the former Ducks starting quarterback said on Saturday from the Bay Area as his former teammates prepared for their title shot against Auburn. “What if I was in Arizona this week? It would be fun. Definitely be fun. An opportunity of a lifetime, but hey, you know, I got dealt the cards I got dealt.”

Masoli thanks the Ole Miss fan base

“… thanks to all the fans for a great season of support.  I know this season wasn’t all we had hoped for but it was a great ride.  One of my favorite moments in my career is the game @ LSU where we almost pulled it off.”

The fact that one of his “favorite moments” is when he “almost” pulled something off tells you what kind of year it was for the QB and the Rebels.  At least he walked the straight and narrow and avoided any public embarrassments.  Good for him on that front.

RB Scott leaves Rebels, but Nutt hints decision might not be final

RB Scott leaves Rebels, but Nutt hints decision might not be final

OXFORD — Reserve sophomore running back Rodney Scott has left the Ole Miss football team, coach Houston Nutt said today. But Nutt hinted that a door could be open for his return.

Nutt said that Scott “right now” had left the team, and had done so mid-last week. Asked if his usage of “right now” implied that his status could change, Nutt said that he would meet with Scott and his father after the season.

Scott had played in all 10 of the Rebels’ games that preceded his departure, rushing 21 times for 69 yards and a touchdown.

LSU defense struggles against Jeremiah Masoli, Ole Miss

LSU defense struggles against Jeremiah Masoli, Ole Miss

BATON ROUGE — LSU’s defense started and ended Saturday’s game well, but the Ole Miss offense gave them fits in between the Tigers’ 43-36 win at Tiger Stadium.

Defensive end Lavar Edwards picked off a pass by Ole Miss quarterback Jeremiah Masoli on the Rebels’ first drive. Cornerback Patrick Peterson ended the game in the same fashion. But the Tigers’ normally reliable defense had trouble containing Masoli and running back Brandon Bolden. LSU gave up 420 yards and allowed a season-high 36 points.
