MSU’s Frazier receives Team USA invitation
STARKVILLE — Adam Frazier’s summer plans are on hold.
The Mississippi State infielder was invited to join the Team USA National Collegiate Team last week, though he was not alerted until the moment he walked off the field following MSU’s three-game sweep of then-No. 5 Kentucky on Saturday.
“It’s nothing I ever expected, for sure,” Frazier said. “I’m excited about going up and playing Cape Cod this summer and when he told me that, it blew my mind. I’m really excited about it. To wear that across my chest is a huge honor.”

MSU’s revised goal: Earn right to host NCAA Regional
HOOVER, ALA. — Mississippi State’s final half of the SEC regular season was one of the best in school history.
Now coach John Cohen and his players want more as they enter the SEC Tournament and face 14th-ranked Arkansas in today’s second game, set to begin 30 minutes after the 9:30 a.m. opener between Ole Miss and Kentucky ends.
The Bulldogs believe hosting an NCAA Regional might be at stake if they can make a deep run this week at Regions Park.

Stratton, Rea lead Bulldogs past Wildcats
STARKVILLE — The pain is gone.
First baseman Wes Rea overcame a month-long slump and ace Chris Stratton pitched yet another gem Thursday, helping Mississippi State take a 3-1 victory against No. 5 Kentucky at Dudy Noble Field.
Rea, who has battled a shoulder injury, busted out of a 1-for-42 slump with a pair of hits, including a two-run single in the fourth inning.

Ole Miss, State both turned profit in 2011
A USA TODAY report on Monday showed Mississippi State to be one of only 22 self-sufficient athletic departments in Division I, turning a profit of $7.4 million in the 2011 fiscal year. Ole Miss, however, argues that it belongs in that group, too.
John Hartwell, Ole Miss’ senior executive associate athletic director, says it’s all about the way the dollars are reported to the NCAA.
While the $58 million in revenue MSU reported included $16.3 million from the school’s private fundraising arm, the Bulldog Foundation, Ole Miss’s reported revenues of $49 million included only a portion of money brought in by the UMAA Foundation.

Rebels eager for Swayze encore
OXFORD – Tennessee, with its eight conference wins, won’t be confused with an SEC baseball juggernaut, but a sweep of the Volunteers has Ole Miss players hopeful that Sunday’s 4-2 victory won’t be their last at Swayze Field.
Ole Miss (34-18) is 14-13 in SEC play, a record that leaves them second in the Western Division and fifth in the overall standings with three games left.

Rebels eye 2-for-1 deal in righty Hively
OXFORD — R.J. Hively could pitch twice this weekend against Tennessee. At least that’s the hope, and has been the attempted plan the last three weeks.
It would allow Ole Miss to have the best available option fill both of its primary needs: shutdown reliever and Sunday starter.
“That’s the thing we would prefer,” Ole Miss coach Mike Bianco said.
It’s what Bianco wanted to do against LSU last weekend, before Hively ended up throwing six innings in relief (and taking the loss).

Sure, the faces have changed over the last year, but the suddenly hot rivalry between Mississippi State and Florida remains.

How to win the West?
LSU has won its four Southeastern Conference home series, and if it wins its final one against Vanderbilt beginning Friday night, it will clinch the Western Division.
The Tigers (38-11, 16-8 SEC) have a four-game lead over second-place Arkansas and Mississippi State and would win a tiebreaker with both by virtue of having beaten them in head-to-head series.
LSU has taken a step-by-step approach to put itself in this position. The Tigers began conference play by taking two out of three against Mississippi State. In subsequent home series, they swept Arkansas and Alabama and taken two out of three from Georgia.
