Mountain West had ‘in-depth discussions’ about keeping Boise State in league
The Mountain West said it had “in-depth discussions” with Boise State about keeping the Broncos in the league in the future, but that the school late last week opted to “continue with its plan to move to various other conferences.”
The league also confirmed that Boise State “has not yet officially withdrawn from the Mountain West.”
The Mountain West said it was a “one-time opportunity” for Boise State to reconsider its position.
The statement from Commissioner Craig Thompson to the Idaho Statesman came hours after Boise State Athletic Director Mark Coyle met with the media in Florida at the Big East meetings and denied full-blown meetings with the Mountain West. Coyle said he attended the Mountain West meetings “a few weeks ago.”

Detroit Lions New QB Kellen Moore With Team He Wanted in First Place
Former Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore is College football’s winningest quarterback from the Football Bowl Subdivision. He also got snubbed at the 2012 NFL Draft. However that is just par for the course for the new member of the Detroit Lions.
Moore was never considered to be a lock for an early-round selection, but he was thought to be a player that would hear his name called sometime in the final day of picks. So he waited, waited some more and then late in the day, his dream of getting drafted into the NFL came to a close as this year’s “Mr. Irrelevant” went to another non-AQ school QB—Northern Illinois’ Chandler Harnish. To say that his exclusion from what is the equivalent of Christmas to football teams and fans alike was disappointing is an understatement.

Brian Murphy: Boise State lives up to the hype in NFL Draft
Turns out the football program that won 50 games in the past four seasons had some talent, a fact that those who dismiss Boise State’s success as a byproduct of creative scheduling and poor competition and coaching wizardry always seem to leave out.
After a record-setting draft weekend in which six Boise State players were selected, including two in the first round, the Broncos’ talent level should no longer be in doubt. And, in the best news for Boise State fans, the draft success gives Chris Petersen and his staff yet more ammunition to use on the recruiting trail.

Penn State wants Boise State’s Petersen as next coach
Penn State is reportedly interested in having Boise State football coach Chris Petersen move east to take the same position with the Nittany Lions, according to a report in the Patriot-News (Harrisburg, Pa.).
School officials have reportedly visited Idaho twice in recent days in order to make a sales pitch to one of the nation’s most successful coaches in recent years.

Boise State gets authorization to join Big East
Boise State will not be a BCS buster much longer.
On Thursday, the Idaho State Board of Education gave Boise State President Bob Kustra authorization to join the Big East as football-only member.
The Big East is one of six automatic qualifying BCS leagues and is guaranteed its BCS status through the 2013 season. Boise State has not received an “official invitation” yet, but would join the Big East on July 1, 2013.

Look at the bright side: At least the Pac-12 still has Stanford and the Southeastern Conference has Vanderbilt.
While America’s power conferences worked politely, but carnivorously, behind the scenes to kill off competitors and reconfigure college football, their schools mostly sputtered and spit.
The SEC won the ultimate showdown, with Louisiana State soundly defeating Oregon on a Dallas-area field that was supposed be a neutral but leaned more toward the Mississippi River than the Willamette.
It was only one game, but if Oregon is the best the Pacific 12 has to offer, the conference might be up Walnut Creek without a battle. Maybe Texas Tech can’t get here fast enough.

Boise State will be shooting for its first victory over an SEC team when the Broncos take on Georgia in theChick-fil-A Kickoff Game at the Georgia Dome on Sept. 3.
Boise State has lost all four of its games against SEC opponents, with the most recent a 48-13 defeat by Georgia in 2005. Since that loss in Athens, the Broncos have compiled a 70-8 record, including going 6-3 against teams from the Bowl Championship Series’ big six conferences, and finished in the top 11 of the final Associated Press poll four times.

The NCAA and Boise State will conclude a nearly three-year investigation this week in Indianapolis when they present their findings to the Committee on Infractions, which will decide whether the penalties already imposed by the university are sufficient and whether the athletic department lacked institutional control. Here’s a recap of the investigation that was revealed publicly May 2 and what to expect in the coming months.

Are you serious?
ESPN has created “the start-ups” of college football. Programs like Boise State, TCU and Missouri now have the opportunity to be entrepreneurs, and maybe the new Facebook or Linkedin. You can look at them like start-ups or well run small businesses. Remember when Gary Danielson said “ESPN has leveled the playing field.”
Dude nailed it and ESPN along with spreading the field has produced a bunch of boutique programs with really innovative and crafty CEOs/head coaches that have used cutting edge strategies to become and sustain relevancy in the world of college football. That’s a combination of smarts, creative thinking, implementing the strategy and owning what your program is capable of and after all of that – bringing the swagger necessary to win on Saturday.

1. Truly a big boy now. Boise State already has validated itself on the field, showing it can stand shoulder to shoulder with traditional national powers. But news that Boise State has self-imposed sanctions on its football program and faces a charge of lack of institutional control from the NCAA means one thing: Boise State truly has arrived as a big-time program!
