Recruiting and developing NFL draft prospects

Recruiting and developing NFL draft prospects

Last Thursday night 7 college football teams that combined to sign 94 (4 star) & 13 (5 star) players didn’t have one player picked in the first round.

Here’s looking at you and you lack of coaching & developing players:

1. Texas

2. Georgia

3. Florida

4. Florida State

5. Michigan

6. Oklahoma

7. Miami

Was it a fluke? Sure. Is it unacceptable? Absolutely. More proof that Mack Brown and Mark Richt are two of the best when it comes to underachieving in college football.

Petrino = Best + game effect coach in SEC the last 4 years

Petrino = Best + game effect coach in SEC the last 4 years

The best + game effect coach in the SEC is gone.  No other coach in the last 4 years in the SEC has even been close to Bobby Petrino and his staff as far as producing wins beyond their talent level.   For Hogs fans that love winning football games, this is a big setback looking forward at predicting wins.

Bobby Petrino + game effect coach in the SEC is gone

Check out Dave Bartoo’s piece on http://collegefootballmatrix.com on the impact that Bobby Petrino had on the SEC the last 4 years. It further validates my opinion on The Out of Bounds show on ESPN 105.9 The Zone in Jackson, MS that – Bobby Petrino was without question the 2nd best coach in the SEC until he was fired this past week. And that if Petrino had coached at another school with the right location, resources and tradition like Georgia, Florida or Texas – Petrino would have been competing for national championships.

Here’s a direct link to the Petrino piece: http://collegefootballmatrix.wordpress.com/2012/04/11/before-during-and-after-hogs-profiled/

Great article by our friend Dave.

Worldwide Wes, shoes and connections

Worldwide Wes, shoes and connections

Things quickly got pretty crazy. I learned so much so fast about basketball. Wesley seemed to be involved in everything, with every player, with every coach, with every agent … it was wild.

Four-and-a-half years later, everything I learned then matters more than ever. Thanks to his influence over LeBron James; his emerging public profile as a representative to coaches; and his positioning at the eye of the perfect storm that sees the agency he now works for, C.A.A., representing James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, coach John Calipari and others, Wesley has gone from being a curio among insiders to a full-fledged NBA celebrity, complete with his own mythology, reputation and influence. He’s even on SportsCenter.

LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger is ready to take control of the Tigers’ offense

BATON ROUGE — Spring football games never seem to amount to as much as schools make of them,Actually, LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger has been around more than a year. This is his second spring and Tigers fans who can’t wait to get a full-length gander at him have their chance when the Tigers kick off their annual game to close spring practice at 1 p.m. today in Tiger Stadium. except of course, when there’s a new quarterback in town.

Tim Tebow ‘not sure’ if he’ll start at QB in NFL again, commends Antonio Cromartie for backing up NY Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez

Tim Tebow ‘not sure’ if he’ll start at QB in NFL again, commends Antonio  Cromartie for backing up NY Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez

Tim  Tebow might be the only one not caught up in the hysteria about the Jets’ quarterback position. He acknowledges that Mark  Sanchez is the starter and told ESPN 1050 radio on Friday that he’s “not  sure” if he’ll ever be a starting QB again in the NFL. “I don’t know what the future holds, but I know who holds my future,” Tebow  said, referring to his Christian faith.

Commonwealth is lucky to have two top coaches

Commonwealth is lucky to have two top coaches

To Kentucky fans, Rick Pitino is Traitor Rick.To Louisville fans, John Calipari is Con Man Cal. Who knows what the two men really think of each other.

On this Final Four day, however, on this day of the greatest sporting event in our state’s history, let’s push all the insults off the table. As a commonwealth, let’s stand united in one source of pride: These guys can flat-out coach.

Top-5 SEC football coaches today

Top-5 SEC football coaches today

Great topic and debate Friday on the Out of Bounds show on ESPN 105.9 The Zone.
If you had to rank the top-5 football coaches in the SEC, who would make the cut?
We know Nick Saban is #1 and the best coach in college football, but after Saban it’s one heck of a debate.

My top-5:

1) Saban

2) Petrino

3) Miles

4) Spurrier

5) Richt

Nockin’ on the door: Dan Mullen & James Franklin – Why? Because of where they’re coaching and how difficult it is to be successful in the SEC at Tennessee, South Carolina, & Auburn much less Nashville and Starkville.

Who do you have in your top-5?

Broncos’ Peyton Manning beats fear factor in his return to NFL

There were several times during the 439
days that passed between the time he took his last meaningful snap for the Colts
and when he signed his new contract with the Broncos that Peyton Manning
couldn’t help but wonder if his career might be over.
After spending all of 2011 on the sideline
because of neck injuries, Manning had to consider the possibility of not
playing.

Super Bowl victory didn’t give New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton immunity from NFL rules

Super Bowl victory didn’t give New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton  immunity from NFL rules

A little more than two years ago, Saints coach  Sean Payton was sleeping with the Super Bowl trophy — he joked that he was  drooling all over it — and then posing with it the next morning standing next to Roger Goodell and Drew  Brees.
