Why are the Rebels scrambling at QB again?

By leaving early, Snead opened the door for his backup Stanley to take over the QB role in Oxford last season.  Incoming transfer Randall Mackey was expected to compete for reps as well.

But Houston Nutt never put his full trust in Stanley.  And Mackey turned out to be more of an athlete than a quarterback.  As the season drew near, Nutt sullied his reputation by chasing, landing and playing dismissed Oregon quarterback Jeremiah Masoli.

With Masoli’s rent-a-player year done, it was expected that Stanley would get the first shot at the Rebels’ quarterback job in 2011.  Mackey would somehow be in the running, too.  Ditto recent juco signee Zack Stoudt.

Well now you can add former West Virginia quarterback Barry Brunetti to the mix.  Maybe.
